SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Responsible for inspection, testing and maintenance of plumbing, hydraulic and pneumatic systems on rolling stock equipment and components in accordance with FRA and Amtrak standards and guidelines.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs inspection, testing and maintenance in accordance with 49CFR regulations and Amtrak standards and guidelines.
  • NY City Wide Certificate of Fitness for Fire Sprinkler and Fire Standpipe Systems.
  • Troubleshoots equipment to determine corrective actions and causes of equipment failures
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs hydraulic and pneumatic circuits and systems
  • Repairs water standpipe/sprinklers, water heating, and sanitation systems
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs heating and cooling equipment and related piping
  • Maintains proper care and use of materials, test equipment, machines and hand tools normally associated with assigned job


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Completion of technical school or apprenticeship program preferred
  • Experience in troubleshooting, repairing, replacing, and rebuilding of mechanical equipment and systems
  • Experience testing equipment and making repairs to water and sanitation systems
  • Experience in the maintenance of railroad equipment preferred
  • Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications--both general and technical)
  • Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Heavy work, lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally.
  • Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis
  • Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may need to be obtained based on job assignment
  • Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
  • Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, and safety glasses
  • Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work
  • Must pass all required assessments


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
