SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The purpose of this position is to attract future engineers and construction managers by providing an entry point to promote careers in railway engineering construction. Candidates accepted for this position will have the opportunities to apply their engineering / construction management skills in the field and to gain firsthand work experience in the various aspects of railway engineering construction. This position may include opportunities for the candidates to work during the school semester as a part of a co-op program.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the supervision of assigned Engineering Manager(s) the position will:
• Gain general knowledge about railroad construction and infrastructure along with the various aspects of working with third party entities. 
• Assist in the management of planning, initiation, start-up, construction, inspection and closeout of      Capital Construction performed by Amtrak. 
• Assist in providing technical, logistical, and administrative support to ensure the successful completion of assigned project tasks within scope, schedule and budget.
• Assist in design reviews, and other analyses of fixed railroad infrastructure assets and components to improve reliability and to enhance safety.
• Receive instruction on the various Engineering safety standards, work procedures, and operating practices.

EDUCATION:
• Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.


QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution. 
• Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum. 
• Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

• Available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week between the days/hours: Monday-Friday, 8a-5p


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Prior work experience in design, maintenance or construction.
• Previous construction or railroad industry experience.
• Demonstrate knowledge in planning/scheduling, administration, and contracts. 
• Demonstrate knowledge in reviewing construction standard plans.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD software.


COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
