The Senior Director Business Improvement has overall responsibility for overseeing, identifying, developing and implementing various and multiple business and process improvements for the Engineering Department system in the following Areas:

  • Driving continuous improvement in the S.O.G.R Capital Planning Process, Construction/Production Work practices for various Engineering Disciplines in order to maximize our capital investment.
  • Developing predictive analytics to drive reliability using engineering data from various sources including trouble desk reporting, asset condition and track geometry data.
  • Engineering, Procuring and Maintaining a fleet of Maintenance of Way Equipment cable of meeting Amtrak’s S.O.G.R and steady state needs.


  • Responsible for overseeing, directing, implementing and providing multi-functional service across the entire Engineering Department by researching issues, reviewing business practices, meeting with internal and external groups and coordinating with various functional areas to identify opportunities for continuous quality improvement, streamlining activities and cost savings.
  • Manage the Infrastructure Asset Database and coordinate and develop the annual and 5 -year asset plans in accordance with 49 U.S.C. 24904 and 49 U.S.C. 24320.
  • Develops and implements programs for continuous improvements in OTP (on-time performance). This will include the identification of critical infrastructure needing repair or replacement as detected through predictive analytics or asset reliability report. 
  • Directs and administers the Engineering Equipment group comprised of engineers and mechanics tasked with designing, procuring and maintaining a fleet of M.O.W. equipment values up to $500 million. 
  • Manage the Engineering Operations which tracks infrastructure asset failure and engineering production to allow Engineering to use the data to improve OTP
  • Manage the Engineering Ops Desk


  • B. S. degree in Industrial Engineering, business administration, organizational management or a related field or the equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. 
  • 15 years of relevant experience. 
  • Significant experience and background in asset management. 
  • Significant experience in preparing and making effective presentations. 
  • Significant experience in railroad operations, policies and procedures. 
  • Significant experience in prepare reports for executive level members of a corporation.
  • Significant experience effectively managing project reporting and administrative tools and controls for multiple ongoing projects and /or programs. 
  • Experience in using process improvements and predictive analytics to drive operational efficiencies and improve business results
  • Demonstrated skills using MS Office (Microsoft Excel, Access); Microsoft Word, PowerPoint 
  • Experience working with an Enterprise system; Preferably Maximo.  Demonstrated proficiency in implementation of process-based strategy and design. 


  • Extensive experience in using and implementing Continuous Quality Improvement techniques. 
  • Master’s Degree in applicable field or Professional Engineer (P.E.). license.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification 

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
