Responsible to maintain and troubleshoot malfunctions with electrical equipment, electronic drives and controls on moveable bridges.  Responsible for the inspection of moveable bridge electrical components according to the provisions of Amtrak Engineering Practice 3002.  Responsible to test and replace faulty electrical components on movable bridges and the construction of electrical equipment and service maintenance on Amtrak-owned buildings and facilities.  Other duties as assigned include maintenance and support of electrical services and equipment along the right-of-way to maintain normal railroad operations.


  • Perform maintenance and repair or replacement of electrical components.  
  • Disassemble and clean electrical parts.  Assemble components, provide maintenance for miscellaneous equipment and facilities with or without blueprints, schematics, and location circuit plans.
  • Construct, with or without drawings, electrical utilities and appliances used in everyday railroad operations.
  •  This includes, but not limited to, both primary and secondary power lines, transformers, both interior and exterior lighting, conduits, switch gear, electrical panels, and standby generation. 


  •  High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.  
  • Must have current electrician license.
  • Must be able and willing to understand and apply safety rules, practice safe work habits, identify safety risks, and avoid potentially risky behaviors and situations.
  • Must have the ability to communicate with others.
  • Must be able to read electrical schematics and prints.
  • Must have the ability to effectively and accurately understand, interpret, reference, evaluate, organize and record non-technical and technical information.
  •  Must have a basic knowledge of national, state, and local electrical codes.


  • A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • HVAC / Electrical Experience is preferred
  • Perform all aspects of wiring installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.  
  • Physical duties involve occasionally climbing and maintaining balance on ladders to gain access to elevated structures and/or bucket or lift trucks; maintaining balance when occasionally walking on catwalks, running boards, uneven terrain, ballast, and roofs while making repairs.
  • Lift/carry and push/pull objects weighing 25 lbs. to 70 lbs. occasionally.  
  • Perform work while occasionally bending and stooping and in awkward postural positions.
  •  Perform overhead work for short periods of time.
  •  Use of shovels, picks, etc., use of various hand and power tools.
  • International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers


Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
