SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Human Resources Generalist will have tactical and operational responsibility for completing projects and tasks related to the Human Resources needs for the business and/or functional areas that they support while working closely with the aligned Human Resource Business Partner (HRBP).  The HR Generalist role will support our Operations organization, specifically supporting our Transportation – Central. This position serves as a liaison role between their assigned area of support, the supporting HRBP, and HR Employee Service Center (HRESC).  Generally, support will involve project and day to day work related to generalist activities, including implementing and administering human resources programs or policies.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Liaison between HRESC and business client groups. Provides training, information, and direction for clients on human resources matters, such as backfilling positions, talent acquisition processes, onboarding, and processing of HR data. 
•Provides day to day support for assigned client groups on Human Resources projects, tasks and issues. Answers questions and solves problems for the client regarding HR transactions. Works collaboratively with other HR Centers of Excellence to evaluate and improve delivery of all HR services.
•Responsible for proactively pulling and analyzing a variety of HR reports, including but not limited to: affirmative action plans, turnover, onboarding, off-boarding, retirement eligibility, etc. Takes appropriate action to ensure proper completion. 
•Responsible for the data integrity of organizational charts. Meets with leaders and Finance regularly to ensure the ongoing accuracy of headcount/org chart reporting.
•Works closely with the respective Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to coordinate, communicate, and administer a variety of programs and activities to assigned client groups. 
•Works closely with front line and middle managers to drive initiatives such as individual development plans, team development, training, coaching, and succession planning. 
•Analyzes workforce analytics for assigned Business or Function; assists HRBP in the recommendation and implementation of workforce plans.
•Ensures administration, interpretation, creation and modification of Amtrak policies, procedures, operating procedures and work flows.
•Responsible for the administration of the on-going performance process, including check-in conversation reminders, educating and coaching managers, and creating calibration sessions at year-end, following up with employees and managers to ensure completion.  Works closely with Employee Relations to ensure low performers are properly addressed.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE:
•Bachelor’s Degree plus a minimum of 8 years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent amount of work experience (minimum of 12 years) and training in a similar role
•Strong Expertise in working with Microsoft Office suite
•Ability to analyze workforce data and provide recommendations to improve business results 
•Ability to partner with both client groups and Human Resources Centers of Excellence
•Customer service focus and strong interpersonal skills 
•Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written 
•Strong knowledge and understanding of HR processes and systems  
•Ability to analyze situations and take appropriate action to ensure completion
•Good judgement, decision-making, and problem solving skills
•Ability to persuade and influence others, including leaders at higher levels in the organization
•Superior time management skills.  Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, high volume work environment
•Ability to re-prioritize based off changes in business needs
•Ability to build collaborative relationships with others quickly
•Performs work with minimal supervision
•Ability to handle confidential information


PREFERRED:
•Masters in Human Resources or related field
•S/PHR and/or SHRM S/CP Certification
•Other HR Centers of Excellence Certifications
•Strong foundation in Human Resources including policy administration, employment law, training and development, and organizational effectiveness
