This position may be located in New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Boston, MA; Washington, DC; Wilmington, DE; or other locations within Amtrak’s Operation.

Summary of Duties:
The Amtrak Manager Trainee Program is an aggressive, fast paced program designed to accelerate future leaders into management professionals at Amtrak. This program gives college graduates an opportunity to gain a broad perspective and valuable experience in a series of rotation assignments throughout the organization. It offers assignments which allow employees to train, develop, and grow professionally while making meaningful contributions to the organization. Through the program, the trainee will have the opportunity to build a solid record of accomplishments and gain a broad-based perspective of the company. The program ranges from 12-24 months in length depending upon career track and performance.

The beginning of the program includes orientation and multiple training requirements. During this portion of the program, trainees will participate in meet and greets with executives and department heads, as well as receive tours at several facilities, shops and stations across Amtrak’s footprint. The first few months of the program will consist of classroom training at our state-of-the-art training facility located in Wilmington, DE, as well as on-site operational training across multiple Amtrak locations. A series of rules qualifications will be taught, and comprehension assessed in order to continue successfully in this program. Each required rules training will include classroom learning followed by an exam, then immediate job shadow to observe each corresponding area in order to see firsthand what each department entails and understand how those rules apply.

Once the orientation, rules training and observation rotations are complete, trainees will move into advanced rotation assignments. A minimum of three assignments is required and will be selected for each trainee based on previous experience and business need. Trainees are placed one-on-one with an Amtrak manager, in order to gain a more detailed understanding of each position.

The final phase of the program includes placing the trainee into an assistant manager role that is aligned with a manager from the position in which the trainee will fit best. This is determined by a combination of feedback from managers during advanced rotations, and business needs. Once in the assistant role, the trainee will then be placed on a fast-track development plan to transition into the final role in which they have trained for.
