SUMMARY OF DUTIES: 
The purpose of the internship is to prepare college students for entry into the business world by providing an understanding of IT client engineering, and support functions to include theoretical knowledge and practical application of end user client technology. The intern will work on tasks, projects, and support issues that involve some degree of risk, with minimal impact to business unit performance. This will make use of the individual’s level of knowledge within their areas of specialty while taking advantage of opportunities to learn additional technology skills in real world situations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in the design and implementation of Windows desktop images. 
  • Assist in client operating system, application and hardware troubleshooting. 
  • Work with team members on the design and implementation of Windows group policies and basic scripting. 
  • Work with team members on mobile device management efforts using Amtrak’s mobile device and application management tools. 
  • Assist in the design of mobile device configurations for Android and iOS devices. 
  • Troubleshoot issues with mobile devices and applications. 
  • Work with the Software Distribution team on application packaging and distribution activities. 
  • Learn and develop skills in information technology to include client devices running Windows, iOS and Android operating systems. 
  • Develop communication skills with IT professionals who specialize in other areas of the IT organization to facilitate a broader working knowledge of participating in an enterprise IT organization. 
  • Work with team members to work within the establish change management rules for implementing changes to production systems and tools.

 

EDUCATION: 

Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Management Information Systems, Information Technology or other related field

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution. 
  • Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum. 
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week between the days/hours: Monday-Friday, 8a-5p

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • An Information Technology related major with course work in Windows client /end user and mobility technologies. 
  • Should have coursework that includes Windows Client Operating Systems, mobility technology and some basic programming concepts. 
  • Ability to do research on technology related topics and solutions • Ability to work independently on tasks as well as in a team setting.

 

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: 
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
