SUMMARY OF DUTIES:


This position assists the Sr. Electrical Engineer in the completion and execution of signal system design projects by working with group members involved in the as in service, preparation, and revision of signal standard/design plans.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

•    This person is responsible for reviewing and revising signal standards/designs, as well as incorporating any changes, revisions, or modifications on the computer aided design system (MicroStation).
•    Responsible for managing the CAD files consisting of existing and new signal standard/design plans.
•    Identifies C&S engineering issues and initiates problem-solving activities.
•    Distributes completed and approved circuit design revisions and “as-in-service” design plans to the field.
•    Responsible for working with management staff at Lancaster Signal Repair Shop to detail circuit design plans.
•    Engineering system support to the Signal Design team.
•    Maintain and update the C&S information Library.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


•    Must have Associates Degree in Engineering or significant experience in CAD systems (at least 3 years. MicroStation preferred) or experience in C&S construction/maintenance of railroad signal facilities and knowledge of railroad signal system design circuits.
•    Working knowledge of railroad signal circuit plan symbols, nomenclature, and circuit logic.
•    Knowledge of circuit and signal design practices of predecessor railroads.
•    Knowledge of Amtrak’s interlocking layouts and physical characteristics.
•    Knowledge of computer aided design application software & Amtrak C&S configurations (MicroStation).
•    Knowledge of C&S equipment (e.g.:  relay racks, batteries, etc.).
•    Knowledge of all failsafe design for electronic circuits.
•    Knowledge of electrical and electronic engineering concepts.
•    Knowledge of FRA standards, rules, and regulations.
•    Knowledge of general office software.
•    Ability to Qualify on NORAC, AMT-2, and RWP.
•    Must be able to express thoughts, ideas, and technical information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
•    Communicates with field personnel to ensure accuracy of signal system designs on file (e.g.: interlockings, train inspection devices). 
C3 Electrical Engineer has 5 years’ experience and 4 year degree. In lieu of a degree, experience can be substituted.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


•    Associates Degree in Engineering.
•    4 years C&S construction/maintenance of railroad signal facilities or significant experience in CAD systems and knowledge of circuit design as  applied in signal systems.


COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: 


Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.


This position is a tiered position. Incumbents will have a position level assigned based on their skills and experience, and in alignment with position

development plans. Position placement is at Amtrak’s sole and absolute discretion.
