Do you have an interest in learning more about how a university recruitment program works? If you’re seeking hands-on experience in full lifecycle university recruiting, while working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, then this is the internship for you.


The University Recruitment Intern will learn basic recruiting fundamentals with focus on high-volume recruiting, with emphasis on ensuring a positive candidate experience.   Key functions of this role will include sourcing top talent, managing candidate activities while adhering to applicant compliance protocols, and assisting with program development functions and on-campus recruitment events.


The University Recruitment Intern will have exposure to working with key stakeholders, senior leaders, and external partners.  This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience to prepare you for a career in the field of recruiting.



  • Works closely with various members of Amtrak’s University Recruiting/Talent Acquisition team to learn recruitment processes, strategies, and best practices.
  • Assist with campus recruiting events, including career fairs, information sessions and workshops.
  • Generate new ideas for on-campus recruiting initiatives and campus partnerships. 
  • Serve as a brand ambassador to source active intern/co-op candidates using university career services, job boards and social media sites.
  • Post jobs on various job boards.
  • Phone screen candidates and assist in coordinating onsite interviews, as needed.
  • Work objectively with solid judgement to influence candidate selection decisions; participate in interview debriefs, as applicable.
  • Assist in preparing/extending offers to selected candidates, as applicable.
  • Participate in business focused recruitment strategy meetings.



  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business, Human Resources, Communication, Marketing, or equivalent.
  • Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher



  • Junior status is preferred, with previous recruiting experience through prior internship, co-op or fulltime/part-time job.  
  • Experience with SAP SuccessFactors or similar ATS. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and enhancing candidate experiences.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office: Outlook, Excel, Word, PP. 

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
