SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Amtrak Engineering has developed a work management system utilizing asset management technologies to maximize the performance of infrastructure, workforce, and assets as well as ensure regulatory compliance of all inspection requirements.

This internship will support the Engineering Department’s Business Improvement group in the maintenance of existing software applications as well as the development of new enterprise solutions. Specific emphasis will be placed on the track inspection application ‘Advanced Compliance Management - Track’ found within IBM software ‘Maximo’.

Employee will be expected to learn track inspection process, regulation, and terminology, as well as the Maximo program structure that supports ACMT software.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support the technical team and functional leads in the development and implementation of Engineering applications.
  • Perform data extractions and custom reports to support Engineering management and field users
  • Conduct quality assurance checks of track inspection data to identify inconsistencies and potential areas of improvement.
  • Assist in maintaining system configuration documentation.
  • This position begins Summer 2019

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution. 
  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in computer science or related field
  • Must have at least 2 years of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum. 
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts, skills, and terminology at an accelerated pace
  • Knowledge of database software
  • Experience with Mapping Software ESRI / ARCGIS
  • Some knowledge of querying languages SQL, PL/SQL, etc.
  • Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office applications


EDUCATION:
Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in computer science or related field


COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
