SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Amtrak Police Department’s Operations Support Unit is seeking a qualified intern whose primary responsibilities will be to provide administrative project support to the Operations Support Unit related to the 500+ members of the Amtrak Police Department.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assists the Inspector, Operations Support in providing research, technology and administrative projects of the Amtrak Police Department. Duties will include:

  • Assistance with coordination of a wide-range of administrative projects in support of a 500+ member railroad policing operation.
  • Assisting with research, development, and implementation of projects on topics ranging from records management, research hardware and software to law-enforcement services, as well as general administrative duties.
  • Presenting research results on a variety of administration functions using computer programs such as MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Organizing and maintaining project management files and completing documentation when necessary.
  • Assisting with creating and maintaining standard operating procedures, instructional materials, and presentations.
  • Performing other duties as required.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong software application skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to express oneself, clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and to edit written material.
  • Knowledge of report writing techniques and the principles of editing.
  • Knowledge of general research techniques and their application.
  • Knowledge of modern principles of organization, administration, and management.
  • Ability to identify the problem and make recommendations.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive issues and confidential information.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Current undergraduate student at an accredited college or university. This position is subject to time pressures, frequent changes in tasks and priorities, handling multiple projects simultaneously. Must have strong organizational skills.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Business Administration or a related field from an accredited college or university.

 

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
