SUMMARY OF DUTIES:This position is to assist with the maintenance and operation of the Amtrak-owned traction power conversion facilities and coordinating maintenance at the utility-owned conversion facilities on the Northeast Corridor. Position also assists with managing and maintaining the existing control systems and associated field equipment serving the power dispatching offices. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Execute capital upgrade programs and maintenance programs relating to the frequency converters and SCADA system
  • Provide training to employees on the operation and maintenance of the frequency converters and SCADA systems used.
  • Performs field audits and provides expert advice to ensure compliance with engineering practice and policy
  • Work with electric traction operations, maintenance, design staff and other departments to ensure a safe and reliable power network 
  • Provide data and assist with root cause analysis on electric traction system outages and failures 
  • Respond to emergency calls involving the frequency converters or SCADA systems
  • Report on assigned projects including progress, budgeting, forecasting, and scheduling


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required OR equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Demonstrated experience with railroad electric traction systems, frequency converters, SCADA control systems, PLC’s and RTU’s.
  • Experience with word processing, trending, spreadsheets, databases, graphic development, CADD and programming.
  • 9 years of experience in the operations and maintenance of power generation, frequency conversion or large electrical facilities

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.


COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
