The Sr. Technologist is an expert technical role.  Works on one or more projects as the technology subject matter expert or technical leader. When involved with a project team, acts in a consultative manner and typically does not provide administrative or management type of support. Works on complex tasks, projects and support issues that involve a high degree of risk, impacts business unit performance and makes use of the individual's high level of knowledge within one or more areas of specialty.


  • Researches and analyzes complex technologies within area of required expertise.
  • Assesses emerging technologies.  Evaluates and may recommend new products or tools for the organization.  Assist in cost-benefit and risk analysis.
  • Makes recommednations and influences long-term technology strategy and planning for multiple business units.
  • Assists in the development and analysis of source selection strategies.
  • Works with service providers to ensure that their in-scope technical solutions are consistent with the enterprise business strategy and architecture.
  • Serves as a consultant and escalation point for issues.  Provides project managers with technical consultation and advice, enabling quick response to inquiries related to the program/project.
  • Provides technical analyses to help define, assess, and monitor the technical aspects of the program/project or service.
  • Designs inovative solutions using new technologies.  Recommends short-term alternatives when appropriate.
  • Troubleshoots existing information systems or networks to identify errors or deficiencies.  Brainstorms possible solutions and evaluates alternatives against decision criteria.
  • Assists in the resolution of support issues escalated by senior operations, development personnel or service provider personnel.  Works with vendors during the problem resolution process as needed.
  • Provides technical expertise across business functions. Identifies opportunities to improve business processes via new technologies.
  • Provides support for Pricilple Technologist's representation of Amtrak relevant, industry forums.
  • On-call shift would be required to support this system.
  • Driving Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly User & Admin Access Certification & Review
  • Document processes and procedures as required.
  • Supporting the Change Management process.
  • Supporting the Incident Management process.
  • Configure new certifications as need arises.
  • Ability to prepare audit responses when requested
  • Excellent Written Communication skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously


  • Must have hands on support experience with an existing Identity Governance system including Privileged Account Management.
  • Must understand Identity Lifecyle Management
  • Must understand Linux, Enterprise Directories, Microsoft Active Directory and the Windows Server operating system.
  • Must be comfortable running a meeting.  (Conference Calls and In Person Relevant Certifications).


  • Experience meeting PCI Compliance.
  • Facilitating a full user & admin level Access Certification / Review.
  • Utilized tools for Access Certification and Privileged Account Management like:  Sailpoint & BeyondTrust
  • Familiarity with Role Base Access Control
  • Ability to demonstrate planning, organizing and implementing skills which allow the successful completion of tasks by a specific due date.)
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, work well with others in an integrated team environment, and must be self-motivated
  • Must posess working experience utilizing the ITIL Framework for Incident, Change, Problem and Release Management.

Masters degree in engineering or computer science, or equivalent


  • Understanding of Mainframe environments
  • Experience with Tomcat Webservers.
  • Understanding of LDAP and SSO products like ForgeRock OpenDJ and OpenAM.
  • Certifications: CISSP, CISM or CISA
  • Experience with the folloing applications:

              o Amazon Web Services (AWS)
              o Identity as a Service. (IDaaS)
              o Office 365 (Azure)
              o SSL Certificates.
              o MS SQL and SQL Query
              o Shell Script
              o PowerShell
              o SharePoint
              o SailPoint
              o BeyondTrust
              o ForgeRock Identity Suite


Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
