SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
As an HR Compliance Intern, you will gain valuable skills in conducting effective investigations of workplace disputes (including internal complaints of discrimination and harassment), under the close supervision of Amtrak’s Manager of HR Compliance & Risk Management. Individuals in this role use EEO principles, knowledge of Amtrak policy, and analytical skills to support assigned projects, primarily EEO related investigations. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Assists EEO Compliance staff in the investigation of sensitive internal disputes, including internal complaints of discrimination and harassment, using best practice investigatory procedures.
· Partners with EEO Compliance staff to conduct witness interviews and collect and analyze witness statements and documentary evidence.
· With guidance and direction, prepares thoughtful and thorough investigative reports and recommendations for corrective action.
· Advises and assists managers and other internal stakeholders on EEO related matters

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution 
· Must be actively pursuing a graduate degree in Human Resources or Law  
· Must have a sophomore status at minimum
· Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

• Must be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week between the days/hours of Monday – Friday, 8am –   5pm.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Relevant work experience (e.g. internships, school jobs)
· Microsoft Office experience (Word, Excel)
· Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information

 

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
