SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for development and support for multiple applications.  The position entails development, and enhancement of Amtrak’s platform and applications.  Daily tasks include responding to change and trouble tickets, monitoring the platform for failures, exceptions and threshold issues, tuning and optimizing applications performance, testing applications for product upgrades and patches, communicating with customers and upper management about platform and/or ticket status, and working on occasional minor enhancements as remaining work capacity allows.  

 

This role works closely with stakeholders to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions. These solutions must be aligned with business and IT strategies and are in compliance with the organization’s architectural standards. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  •  Develop high quality software systems by analyzing requirements, providing technical design, developing software, support testing and deployment. 
  • Develop web based applications utilizing JEE and JavaScript framework. Responsible for developing critical revenue generating/supporting customer facing and enterprise applications.
  • Responsible for analyzing and bringing in the new technology trends in the industry for the enterprise Web applications. Help foster, mentor, coach and develop the technical team to take systems to the next level.
  • Provide maintenance support of the applications by troubleshooting and resolving application issues to meet SLA’s and performance requirements.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, specialized training, certification, or equivalent work experience.
  • 7+ years of programming and/or systems analysis experience
  • 5+ years of programming experience in .NET, SQL, and cloud services integration.
  • Has developed application with Geo Data and integrated with GPS position data.
  • Extensive experience with developing large scale enterprise applications.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate will have proven experience with:

  • Familiarization with networking protocols, firewalls, mobile communications and services security
  • Expertise in Kiosk technologies – Options and Peripherals, Scanners, Readers, Printing and Network options, Touch Based Inputs, ADA Compliance, Kiosk Management Tools, Text to Speech
  • Has good understanding of CI/CD & automation using tools such as SonarQube, Jenkins etc.
  • Has expertise in hosting applications in Amazon Web Services or Azure cloud technology stack.
  • Proficiency in using Github or Bitbucket, JIRA and Confluence.·    Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, specialized training, certification, or equivalent work experience.
  • Domain knowledge of transportation reservation systems, Contact Centers and Stations
  • Has experience or worked with AWS tech stack such as EC2, Redis, Lambda, Kinesis etc. 
  • Worked with RDBMS or No SQL databases, such as DynamoDB or MongoDB.
