SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Sr. Employee Relations & EEO Specialist provides conflict resolution and performance management expertise to managers and employees by deploying best practices in investigative, coaching and facilitation techniques to ensure fair and consistent treatment across the organization. Other key responsibilities include assisting with the administration of Amtrak’s Service Award program, recognition and retention activities.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Investigate significant or complex internal disputes, including complaints of harassment and discrimination
•Collaborate with managers at all levels to facilitate the development and implementation of performance counseling and disciplinary coaching
•Advise and assist managers with formal performance improvement plans
•Utilize significant business knowledge to make recommendations for conflict resolution at all levels
•Prepare high-level effective investigative plans and reports
•Keep abreast of changes in EEO law and Employee Relations best practices
•Build internal professional relationships to effectuate HR initiatives and policies
•Provide litigation support to Amtrak counsel as needed
•Represent Amtrak as a witness in litigation matters
•Assist with the recognition and service awards programs, including the annual PSSA Program
•Work closely with business leaders to identify reward and recognition activities that promote a positive work environment. Implement strategies that proactively focus on preventing and resolving employee issues
•Use proper coaching techniques to assist managers in having crucial conversations
•Maintain and update Employee Relations and EEO records


WORK EXPERIENCE:
•Intermediate to advanced level experience (5-7 years) working in Law, Employee
Relations, EEO or Human Resources
•Working knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures
•Demonstrated skills using PC-based spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel, Access); Microsoft
Word, PowerPoint
•Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information
•Demonstrated problem solving skills in human resource matters

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION:
PHR or similar professional HR certification preferred


PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE:
Experience in unionized environment


COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
