The Sr Principal Technologist is an expert/lead technical role.  Works on one or more projects of high complexity as the technology subject matter expert and/or technical leader/consultant in multiple disciplines. When involved with a project team, acts in a consultative manner and does not provide administrative or management type of support. Works on the most complex tasks and projects, or supports issues that involve the highest degree of risk and impact enterprise-wide performance.  Makes use of the individual's expert knowledge within one or more areas of specialty.


•Lead cross-functional effort to develop and oversee business continuation and disaster recovery strategy and priorities, policies and project plan
•Manage Business Continuity Plan for Amtrak including the BCP and DR documentation, coordination and project management. Update and maintain the BC and DR plans at least annually and when significant updates to business or infrastructure occur. 
•Collaborate with Amtrak department leaders to develop and maintain written business continuation plan, provide training on plan and coordinate business continuation table top exercises. 
•Create KPI’s and associated reporting to ensure BCP and DR processes are operating effectively and service levels are known and being met by team. 
•Manage the continued build out of infrastructure at Amtrak’s DR data center to establish secure internet connectivity. Ensure all necessary components (e.g., firewalls, load balancers, etc.) are installed, configured and operational. 
•Identify other business critical infrastructure elements lacking redundancy and develop plans to have them instantiated at the DR site. 


•Demonstrated experience with relevant Information Technology domains pertaining to high availability and disaster recovery (e.g. network redundancy, clustering, data replication)
•Demonstrated working knowledge of cloud computing concepts, IaaS and PaaS in particular, as it pertains to high availability and disaster recovery principles and strategies
•Strong interpersonal communication skills to collaborate with management and staff at all levels 


Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science, or equivalent work experience.


•Minimum of 8-10 years demonstrated experience working with Executive / Senior Management and Business Continuity teams
•Minimum of 10-12 years demonstrated experience leading Resiliency Programs (BCP or DR) for large enterprises.
•Minimum of 10-12 years experience with current resiliency planning strategies, techniques and technologies as well as the methods used in performing risk analyses and business impact analyses.
•Strongly preferred: Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) through DRI International or BCI Certification through BCI Institute


The successful candidate will have proven experience with:
•Familiarity with business continuity program life cycle plans and source deliverables is important to this job.
•Require having a good understanding of current recovery solutions, high availability architectures and mainframe architectures is needed. Expert in IT recovery, application testing and BIA development. Must understand IT networking and storage architecture. Must have a good knowledge of crisis communications and the ability to handle stressful situations under pressure.


Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
