National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) has an opening for a Systems Developer in Washington, DC


JOB DUTIES: Responsible for designing, coding, testing, implementing and supporting application software that is delivered on time and within budget. Work closely with clients, and participate in the project planning process with IT business analysts and team members to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions that must be aligned with business and IT strategies and in compliance with the organization’s architectural standards. Responsible for systems analysis, design development, integration enhancement, maintenance and support. Assist in evaluating and providing recommendations for application packages and tools. Identify system requirements, and assist in the deployment of new modules, upgrades and fixes. Participate in gathering solutions with other applications and platforms outside the framework. Participate in integration testing. Assist with defining, developing and modifying software application modules using disciplined development processes. Document functions and changes to new or modified modules and test activities/results. Review modules for quality assurance and check compliance with application standards and SLAs. Provide ongoing maintenance of applications. Assist in the development of user guides and training documentation for manual and web enabled systems. Some travel (less than 10%) may be required to work on projects at various, unanticipated sites throughout the United States.


REQUIREMENTS: Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, and three years of experience in job offered, or three years of experience in a related occupation. Some travel (less than 10%) may be required to work on projects at various, unanticipated sites throughout the United States. Position requires experience with the following: Relational database experience, including SQL and Oracle (2 years); Incident and change management processes and practices (2 years); R, Python, SAS, or SPSS (1 year); Delivering predictive and prescriptive analytics leveraging Cloud Services (1 year); Working with structured and unstructured data sources using Hadoop or Spark across the solution lifecycle (1 year); Machine Learning approaches and algorithms (1 year); and, Querying and manipulating data sets (2 years).
