SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The HR intern is one who naturally possesses a passion for people and a desire to develop professionally. You will work on exciting, creative and analytical projects aligned to recruitment, HR programs, and gain hands-on experience in several facets of HR. This position will require gathering an analyzing data for project and programs supporting all business lines at Amtrak. The intern will have a unique opportunity to support the updates of new polices, procedures, and materials for distribution across the organization. 

 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Work closely with various members of Amtrak’s Talent Acquisition and Amtrak Business Services Center teams to enhance comprehension of HR processes. 
• Ability to research, collect and analyze data
• Report preparation and analysis
• Analyze data and look for recurring patterns. Prove recommendations on areas needing attention
• Ability to multi-task
• Ability to identify challenges/barriers and make recommendations
• Communicate effectively and efficiently with key stakeholders
• Assist with other projects aligned to HR

• This position begins January 2019

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution. 
• Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status
• Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week between the days/hours: Monday-Friday, 8a-5p
•Proficient with data gathering, reporting and analysis
• An ability to handle confidential information
• Excellent writing skills
• Demonstrated experience with project management and effective time management
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Advanced skills with computer systems for gathering data such as Excel


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Has the ability to determine areas where attention is needed and is able to propose actions to make improvements
• Possesses strong attention to details
• Demonstrated leadership qualities through clubs, volunteer organizations, and other extra-curricular activities


EDUCATION:
• Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Management, Human Resources, or equivalent

 

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
