POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Shift Supervisor, Asset Management is responsible for ensuring communication with the Mechanical Terminals and Backshops for identifying defect repairs and regulatory compliance throughout the United States.  Assisting in any mechanical requirements and troubleshooting for enroute train service and PTC Interoperability with Host and Tenant Railroads.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Supervise the activities of the Mechanical/PTC Desk while optimizing procedures and processes for total functionality.
  • Identify continuous process improvement and automation opportunities to increase accuracy and efficiency.
  • Oversee and assess PTC operations to recognize service disruption to expedite resolution(s) with business partners.  
  • Monitor and provide feedback of PTC operations throughout the system to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain SharePoint sites to provide real time PTC OBS log requests to Host Railroads and other outside vendors. 
  • Provide technical training to any newly hired members of the Mechanical Desk.
  • Create, plan, and implement Work Order templates to ensure a standardized method of repair while maintaining budgetary control.
  • Investigate and analyze data that contributes to Amtrak’s OTP (On Time Performance) and establish new methodologies to improve service performance
  • Follow up Incident, Corrective and PM work on Rolling stock equipment to ensure compliance with CFR 49-238 requirements.
  • Track inspections to ensure scheduled completion and perform equipment surveys to determine root causes and/or areas of concern, coordinates mechanical operations with M/W, C&S, ET, Product Line, Transportation, Marketing and Customer Service Departments, and monitors system-wide, out-of-service equipment ensuring availability sufficient for service.  
  • Coordinate directly with the Ops Desk(s), Power Desk(s) and Car Desk(s) within CNOC as the mechanical liaison to insure mechanical issues are reported and addressed for planned and unplanned maintenance.
  • Responsible for development and execution of the Defect Repeater Program to guarantee proper corrective action is taken to repair defective equipment.
  • Report prior days’ operations and current days’ equipment status, compile data on enroute mechanical failures, provide details of CFR 49-229-238-232 incidents, record information in the Work Management System.
  • Translate business objective into various reporting views and presentations to facilitate project tracking and monitoring. 
  • Act as the off-site qualified maintenance person (QMP), provide phone/radio support to on-board/engine crews for the troubleshooting of enroute mechanical problems, be accountable for the support and resolution of all mechanical problems enroute or at end terminals especially incidents involving reporting/resolving CFR 49-238 compliance issues.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Extensive working knowledge of governing federal regulations including FRA, FDA, OSHA, AAR and EEO.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience; minimum 2 years’ experience maintaining Amtrak Rolling Stock Equipment.
  • Working knowledge of equipment systems with problem solving skills for both Locomotives and Cars.
  • Ability to learn new tasks (both complex and routine) in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities.
  • Working knowledge of Arrow/OMS, Work Management, MS Office and CFR 49-229 & 238.
  • Availability to work various shifts/days to ensure 24/7 coverage.
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate sound leadership skills, project management skills and self-starter.

 

PREFERRED / OTHER EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Certified for FRA 238-232 Tier I or Tier II QMP.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Works in a shop and train yard environment requiring walking, bending, stooping and crouching movements for observational purposes.
  • Personal interaction with various business groups from Executive level through ground floor operatives.
  • Daily interfacing and relationship building with organized labor personnel, front line Operational Management and other functional departmental personnel.

 

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
 

  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
