The Data Intelligence Engineering Intern will provide technical support to Amtrak’s Track Geometry Group in developing data-driven technologies. This role will work closely with the researchers and engineers to understand the principles of business intelligence, automated data processing, data management, and enterprise solutions. This role will directly take part in design, implementation, and testing of algorithms that are critical to solving key problems in predictive, diagnostic, and prescriptive analytics. 

The role will mostly work with questions that need strong knowledge in Python and JAVA, signal processing, and databases. The resource will collaborate in ongoing projects to deliver data driven insights to the rest of Organization. 

 Python programming, and signal processing are mandatory .

· Experience with database technologies, and SQL skills for querying and manipulating large datasets both on-premise and off-premise .

· Experience with data analytics using statistical methodologies and tools (R, Python, SAS, SPSS) .

· Experience with visualization tools such as Tableau or similar .

· Design and implementation of data integration pipelines across the entire analytics infrastructure .

· Documentation and structured programming to support sustainable development practice .

· Excellent debugging and code-reading skills .


  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution
  • Must have at least one year of academic undergraduate study completed or sophomore status at minimum
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week between the days/hours of Monday – Friday, 8am –   5pm.

A current graduate student in a master’s or PhD program is preferred. All fields of engineering and science are welcome to apply.

Strong publication record is a plus .

· Provable experience with MATLAB .

· Experience in implementing large-scale software solutions is a strong plus .

· Understanding of data warehousing concepts including data migration and data integration. Some experience working with cloud and Big Data platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure .

· Demonstrated skill in project planning and collaborating with large groups. 

· Ability to describe challenges and solutions in both technical and business terms .

· Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships at all organizational levels.

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
