SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Lead Technologist is an lead technical role and works on one or more projects of moderate complexity as the technology subject matter expert.  When involved with a project team, acts in a consultative manner and typically does not provide administrative or management type of support. Works on moderately complex tasks and projects and support issues that involve a degree of risk or may impact business unit performance. Utilizes individual level of expertise within one or more areas of specialty.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Researches and analyzes technologies within area of required expertise.
  • Assesses emerging technologies.  Evaluates and may recommend new products or tools for the organization.
  • Makes recommendations and influences long-term technology strategy and planning for multiple business units.
  • Assists in the development and analysis of source selection strategies.
  • Works with service providers to ensure that their in-scope technical solutions are consistent with the enterprise business strategy and architecture.
  • Serves as a consultant and escalation point for issues.  Provides project managers with technical consultation and advice, enabling quick response to inquiries related to the program/project.
  • Provides technical analyses to help define, assess, and monitor the technical aspects of the program/project or service.
  • Designs innovative solutions using new technologies.  Recommends short-term alternatives when appropriate.
  • Troubleshoots existing information systems or networks to identify errors or deficiencies.  Brainstorms possible solutions and evaluates alternatives against decision criteria.
  • May lead team responsible for the resolution of support issues escalated by senior operations, development personnel or service provider personnel.  Works with vendors during the problem resolution process as needed.
  • Provides technical expertise across business functions. Identifies opportunities to improve business processes via new technologies.
  • Provides support for Sr Principal Technologist's representation of Amtrak relevant, industry forums.
  • Incumbent will work with Amtrak Technologies and the Information Security Team to research, implement and optimize the deployment of Malware & Antivirus updates, to both Amtrak Business & Revenue Systems, in a timely manner.  Works on the most complex tasks, projects and support issues that involve a high degree of risk, impacts business unit performance and makes use of the individual's high level of knowledge within one or more areas of specialty.  
  • Deploy software packages to new systems and update Symantec Endpoint Protection on existing clients.
  • Verify Symantec Endpoint Protection clients are online and functional.
  • Respond to Symantec Endpoint Protection client messages and apply a solution accordingly.
  • Create Symantec Endpoint Protection policies based on a specified design.
  • Prepare for, install and configure the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and client software.
  • Explain the process to upgrade a Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and client.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Console and menus.
  • Manage clients through groups/locations.
  • Manage and apply policies such as Virus and Spyware Protection policies, Firewall policies, Intrusion Prevention policies, Application and Device Control policies, Live Update policies, and Centralized Exception policies.
  • Use reports and logs to identify security problems and monitor status and security events.
  • Explain the options for updating clients.
  • Explain how communication works between clients, manager and the console and configure clients to communicate properly.
  • Basic troubleshooting for Symantec Endpoint Protection.
  • Create and Manage Administrator Accounts in the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Console.
  • Interpret the results of reports and determine the action to take to remediate the situation.
  • Use unmanaged detector feature.
  • Install and configure Linux clients.
  • Configure and implement Symantec Endpoint Protection domains.
  • Perform basic disaster recovery planning and implementation.
  • Enable debugging and gather logs for technical support use.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 7 to 10 years of relevant technical experience.
  • Relevant Engineering Certifications.
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, work well with others in an integrated team environment, and must be self-motivated
  • Must possess working experience utilizing the ITIL Framework for Incident, Change, Problem and Release Management.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in information systems or equivalent work experience
  • 7 – 10 years relevant work experience
  • Enterprise Malware & Antivirus 
  • Strong understanding of impact on Revenue environments


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ITIL Certification (or equivalent)
  • Solid understanding of SCCD
  • Solid understanding of Symantec Endpoint Tool
  • Experience in implementing AV solution in an 0356 environment
  • Must possess good customer relation skills to interact with users in a diverse environment 
  • KPI/Metric Reporting
