As a member of the Cyber Security Operations team, the Intern will contribute to Security of Information Assets of Amtrak. The Intern will leverage team expertise, industry best practices and research, and academic background to engage in work activities, such as,

  • Support Cyber Security Monitoring tasks 
  • Support Cyber Security tools administration tasks (EDR, SIEM, CASB, DLP, UEBA, FW, WAF, IDS/IPS etc.) 
  • Support vulnerability and risk analysis processes, create reports and submit for remediation.
  • Assist Cyber Security incident management, and remediation process. 
  • Analyze security alarms, events and logs, suggest remedy and support remediation efforts.
  • Search for potential vulnerability, exploit, or “0” Day based on the user behavior, Endpoint threat detection, Network behavior analytics, artificial engine alarms and managed security reports
  • Review Firewall, IDS/IPS logs, web content filtering logs, net flow device logs, anti-virus logs,
  • Assist security audits to uncover possible security policy violations.
  • Checking existing accounts and data access permission requests against documented authorizations.
  • Support Cyber Security Operations metrics and Dashboard creation and maintain tasks

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with key stakeholders



  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited college/university with at least 1 year of undergraduate academic study completed or sophomore status
  • Pursuing an undergraduate / graduate degree in Cyber Security, Information Security, Information Assurance, or related
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.0
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week between the days/hours of Monday – Friday, 8am –   5pm.



  • Experience working in a professional office setting
  • Experience in Microsoft Office software suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing priorities and tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently on specific tasks
  • Some experience in monitoring, investigating, and solving IT security related concerns in a timely manner.
  • Working knowledge within IT operations and/or Service Management functions. 
  • Must possess excellent customer service, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and work well with others in an integrated team environment.
  • Knowledgeable of reporting towards KPI's and industry best practices / benchmarks.
  • Good analytical skills

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
