SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Safety Reporting Analyst is a part of Amtrak’s Safety Data Analytics and Central Reporting team. The Safety Reporting Analyst is responsible for collecting, recording, and analyzing safety incident data. They adhere to Amtrak’s Internal Control Plan and Central Reporting Process documentation to support the success of monthly FRA reporting and the success of internal analytic reports and analysis.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•    Apply knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration's (FRA) accident/incident reporting requirements 49 CFR Part 225 to input incidents in database and support monthly FRA reporting.

•    Will perform data entry and analysis of injury, illness, and/or rail incidents
•    Utilizes electronic file storage to retain all documents in relation to specific incidents
•    Recommend decisions on FRA reportability and coding
•    Independently access various internal and external systems to obtain information to supplement incident reports
•    Independently contacts division and facility staff to obtain information to supplement incident reports
•    Independently contacts other railroads FRA reporting team to share and obtain incident information
•    Will assist in developing and documenting new processes and procedures as needed
•    Will work on special projects as needed to support FRA reporting and/or internal requests for reports and incident trends
•    Will assist in audits, supplying documentation to auditors, researching, and drafting responses
•    Safeguards employee medical records, drug and alcohol test results, accident cause reports
•    Other duties as assigned

 

MININMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Quality Assurance, Business Administration, Transportation, Public Policy or other relevant degree or Associate’s degree in the same fields with 2+ years relevant data input and record handling experience
•    Microsoft Word and Excel experience

•    Able to understand and apply the Federal Railroad Administration's (FRA) accident/incident reporting requirements as stated under 49 CFR Part 225
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio)
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to clearly articulate issues and proposed solutions
•    Self-motivated and able to work independently
•    High attention to detail and organizational aptitude
•    Must understand the importance of record retention
•    Logical thinking skills in order to work through tough problems
•    Must keep records privileged and confidential

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: 

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
